Out of the classroom and onto a building site for Cedar International School students
Clarence Thomas Limited, recently sponsored a school tour of the construction site in Fish Bay. Cedar International School Pre-Kindergarten students were given the opportunity to explore the inside of the new, expansive facility.
The students, proudly wearing their hard hats and youth-sized tool belts provided by CTL, obtained a personalized tour of the new facility from David Thomas and one of the site managers and members of his team.
Students were very eager to learn about how the building is being constructed and the materials required to form the massive building project. The curious Pre-K students had some “tough” questions for Mr. Thomas about the project, “How did you get the idea to build a new building?” and “How long will it take you to finish?” David Thomas answered them, “That’s just what you do when you out grow a location.”
The visiting students were thrilled about the opportunity to get hands-on experience mixing concrete mortar for the walls, using an electric screwdriver to set the energy efficient foam insulated walls and enthusiastically pounding away at nails in scrap pieces of wood using child size hammers. Some of the students wanted to know if they could have a job at the construction site, after today’s outing. All of the visiting students received their own youth tool set as a gift to take with them after their excursion. The students teacher, Emily Farque had this to say about the tour,”The whole trip certainly exceeded my expectations. The workers were so kind and patient with my students”.
The Fish Bay location continues today with business as usual working closer toward the store opening to service Tortola and surrounding communities in the BVI. The soft opening has been slated for the Summer 2015.
